Star Buys: Western Esplanade

Star Buys: Western Esplanade

No address has attracted more media attention than Western Esplanade in the last 10 years, despite it being officially in the otherwise less glamorous Portslade.

Stars have been drawn to it for years: Fat Boy, Derek Jameson, Paul McCartney and Heather Mills (who lives there still), Nick Berry, and June Penn, who has always lived there and has family connections with the man who built this seafront parade of villas.

Now estate agents Hamptons tell Latest Homes they have sold another property on ‘Millionaires Row’, and not to a celebrity. This is the second home Hamptons has sold along Millionaire’s Row this year (the third in two years).

Understandably, the new owners declined an invitation to chat about their new home, and who could blame them? With such illustrious neighbours they will no doubt have to deal with ever-present paparazzi clicking away every time they pop out to buy a pint of milk or a newspaper.

Fortunately for them, the neighbours will be able to give them a few handy hints on how to cope with all that attention.

The magnificent property forms part of this private terrace of houses. Each property directly faces the beach, which is privately owned by the residents.

The house itself has light-filled accommodation arranged over two floors with many rooms having direct beach and sea views. Open-plan living in a triple reception room takes in the views and also has a period fireplace for open fires, whilst two double bedrooms lead out to front courtyards.

On the first floor there is a fourth double bedroom and a master bedroom suite, which has an en-suite bathroom leading to a study/dressing room and also directly out to the roof terrace. And the price? Well, it was marketed at £1,850,000 – maybe not a star resident but certainly a star property.
