Kemp Town’s newest estate agency, Paul Bott & Company, are successfully merging industry expertise with integrity and community spirit

Paul Bott & Company officially opened in September 2014, rising to the challenge of the busy property market place of Kemp Town, and two months on have kept their customer promise and are continuing to go from strength to strength.

So far, the journey of Paul Bott & Company has exceeded expectations. Kathy Bott, Director and co-owner, elaborates: “The warmth and kindness that has been shown to us by Kemp Town regulars and local traders has blown me away. When we looked at opening an estate agency, we thought about every small detail and made a decision that we plan to keep an independent family run agency that delivers in every way, and keeps that promise. 

“To us, Paul Bott & Company isn’t about awards, expensive flashy brochures or cars. 

Our promise was simple:

• Valuations done by our Valuations Director

• All viewings to be handled by a Director

• No Saturday staff or ‘professional viewer’

• Free photography

• Free floor plans

• Constant contact with either buyer or seller

• Open 7 days a week, 7am-8pm (yes, we are open on a Sunday!)

• Friendly and approachable

• Monthly ‘Local Hero’ and local charity donation

We wanted to be different and stand out; our flyers are slightly quirky, our office décor reflects the ambience of a lounge, we have sweets and coffee, and our family dogs are on guard duty.

“Our office isn’t just an estate agents, we have locals that just pop in for a chat or a coffee. I was amazed the other day by a lovely man who popped in for a chat; he had lived in the area for over 40 years and told me all about the history of a property we have for sale, dating back over 100 years. It was fantastic to learn and hear about the history of such a property that we could then go on and inform our potential buyers about. Thirty minutes later, we were still chatting. Brighton and Hove have cast a magic spell on us and opened their hearts – we feel truly blessed.

“Our customer promise of longer opening hours – 7am-8pm, open Saturdays and Sundays – has been warmly welcomed by vendors and buyers alike. The honesty, transparency and openness of the team have been described as ‘a breath of fresh air’ in today’s market place. 

“The big question we asked ourselves was: “What is your property worth without a strong community?” There’s the local greengrocers, Proto, Brampton’s butchers, Artisan coffee shop, White House Hotel and the flea market – it is essential that local businesses are kept alive. Brighton and Hove has so many different areas with local traders, which makes each area-pocket special. We wanted to relay this message in our office window, and on our website.

“Paul Bott & Company decided that local charities would benefit from our help with donations each month, so we hand pick a Brighton and Hove charity or organisation that needs a little extra assistance. Our September donation was to Brighton Pebbles, who are a support group for families who have children with learning and physical disabilities, who have gone on to use their donation from us to enjoy a half-term day out. 

“For our October charity, we have donated to Whoopsadaisy, who specialise in using the principles of Conductive Education to help children with physical disabilities live life as independently as possible. Paul Bott & Company donated a cheque of £250; in addition, Paul himself held a raffle at a charity boxing match and raised a further £500 for Whoopsadaisy.

“Paul continues to support Moulsecoomb Amateur Boxing Club, where he trains the local children, and recently donated new boxing gloves to the club. For us, estate agency isn’t about the pre-conceived thoughts and stereotypes that an estate agent unfortunately has (that it’s all about the money); it is about delivering promises and giving a helping hand to those who are in need.”

What does the future hold for Paul Bott & Co.? “We will keep on delivering our promises to our customers throughout Brighton and Hove, and look forward to an exciting 2015!”
