The Ellmans ethic


Don’t lose your way when it comes to property management and lettings!  After re-branding in 2012, Ellmans have gone from strength to strength, expanding further into the familiar areas of Brighton and Hove together with places further afield, such as Lewes and Bexhill. To what do they owe their success?

Clive Perry, the Managing Director, states: “Our fresh and transparent approach to block management and lettings has resulted not only in the satisfaction of long term clients but also in the attraction of new clients. In addition, three new members of staff have been employed to handle the increased workload in order that all queries within the company are dealt with promptly. Ellmans have recruited an additional accounts assistant to assist with the smooth running of this department, making sure that contractors and clients alike are paid quickly and efficiently. We’ve also taken on a new member within our lettings team, to assist with viewings and advertising properties, enabling us to secure the right tenant. Finally, we have employed a new receptionist who greets everyone with a warm welcome and a great smile.”

Originally established in Brighton and Hove in 1877, the firm has gone through various changes over the years. However, it has always maintained the ethic of developing personal, long lasting relationships.  As Ellmans have historically been a recognised firm within the local community, they were conscious of moving forward and attracting new markets, and therefore took the decision to rebrand ‘Ellman Henderson’ to ‘Ellmans’.

Ellmans have had a stronger and more recognisable street presence within the industry, which for an independent, family run firm speaks volumes. Primarily specialising in block management and lettings, Managing Director Clive Perry and his three property managers have a combined 55+ years’ experience in the industry. Ellmans also have an ever-expanding lettings department, offering a bespoke, friendly service to any landlord wishing to find a tenant, whether they be new clients or existing lessees within the blocks they manage. Ellmans always work hard to secure the right tenant, through good communication with all parties and through employing professional referencing techniques.

Their customers tell them regularly that they appreciate their honest and helpful approach, however they realise that Ellmans’ success is not only due to their friendly, experienced staff but is also due to loyal support from their clients.

Ellmans like to give a little something back, and a summer soiree certainly ticks all the boxes. Every few years, Ellmans hold an event at a local venue and select different clients each time from their portfolio, to say a small thank you for their business. This is also the perfect opportunity for the staff to socialise with their customers in a relaxed atmosphere.

The three property managers, Hannah, Lauren and Mags, tell us: “Events such as these give us a chance to build relationships further, on a personal level. We spend so much time communicating by phone and email, it’s nice to chat face to face and to speak about something other than work! As an office, we’re a social bunch, and it’s nice for us to think that people can come to us and get a very personal touch. It certainly gives a feel-good feeling.”

This year’s event was held at the end of June at the Hove Club on Fourth Avenue, Hove. Guests were greeted with a glass of Pimms and canapés on the lawn. There was entertainment provided by talented swing singer Tom Fitzpatrick and his swing band.

Also invited were a select group of local professionals, including contractors, surveyors and solicitors, with whom Ellmans have a very good working relationship.

Ellmans would like to pass on a huge thank you, to every one of their clients, and the company looks forward to continued, long lasting relationships moving forward.
